Summertime is my happiest time! Many of my families’ most wonderful adventures have happened during the summer. With no rules and no schedule to keep I get good, old-fashioned, quality time with no distractions and get a glimpse into what amazing little adults my kids are growing up to be. It’s a time for reflection and checking in with my kids to see what new things they are into. It’s like getting to know them all over again.
Our days are spent doing anything that involves the outdoors, water, and exploring together. Occasional late nights turn into siestas on the sand the next day. We choose to be around good friends and indulge all of our senses with long walks through the woods, salty sea air in our hair, and the sand between our toes. There is always a new culinary delight to try like mangú, sancocho (a traditional caribbean stew) or curried goat. These are dishes that my son may, or may not, be open to trying when we are home and the chicken nuggets are near.
This year I found that I actually prefer to travel with my children over anyone else. I guess we’ve been doing it for so long we all speak the same travel language. We love to get lost and discover new worlds which leads us to a time for discovering who, and what we’ve become. What a great feeling!
So, on that note, wherever you are for your summer vacation, or staycation, discover the adventure with your kids, the romance with your man, the beauty this universe has to offer, and watch those babies grow while you sip your favorite cocktail or a chilled glass of rosé.
